Greetings to all staff

Greetings from the Director's office in Juneau.
I am honored by my recent appointment and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead. I am deeply impressed by the competence and expertise I have already encountered among the staff. I hope the talents that I bring to your executive management team will add and enhance that competence. I will work diligently to create the best administrative team, increase teamwork, build on past successes and surmount regional and systemic challenges.

DPA has a fine reputation within state government, with legislators and with the public at large. It is for me, a gratifying position to start from, as we embark on the future together. I fully recognize that the DPA reputation is due to the diligent efforts of all staff, despite many challenges, including those posed by our continuing efforts toward implementing welfare reform. I am pleased to join you in those efforts.

It will be my pleasure to meet you all, and indeed, I will endeavor to spend time in each office. I understand that our ability to function as a cohesive unit depends in part on the proactive efforts of the Director's office. I plan to fulfill that role and come to understand your strengths and challenges. Working together, we can make this change of administration an opportunity for growth, positive systemic change and real advancement.

I have an open door for all staff. While giving due respect to normal channels for business related communications and complaints, I hope this Director's office will be a focal point for innovative thinking and personal initiative. No one knows how to do this business better than you do. Management staff will meet regularly to consider innovative ideas, examine our recent progress and refocus on existing or emerging challenges.

I wish you all the best in the coming year.
