Public Assistance Worker Appreciation Week

This week we get to celebrate and recognize the outstanding work our staff does day-in and day-out at the Division of Public Assistance - help Alaskans in need. Each of you do your best every day so Alaskans in need can get through their days and weeks with dignity and greater opportunities to achieve their fullest potential. I hope you take some time this week to celebrate the good work you do for Alaska's citizens and our communities as a whole.

Our work at the Division of Public Assistance is not always easy to accomplish but it is vital. The level of professionalism displayed throughout this agency continually impresses me. Time and time again you rise to meet the challenges we face, reaching and surpassing our goals with innovative ideas and dedication.

Your hard work is paying off. We have been nationally recognized twice this year for your good work. First, The TANF program reaped its third consecutive high performance bonus award for Job Entry providing the state of Alaska over $3.18 million dollars this year alone. To be nationally recognized three years in a row is an amazing achievement, and I applaud all of you for your exceptional work. Your efforts in assisting Alaskans in finding employment and providing them the tools they need to keep their jobs has changed thousands of lives, providing hope to those who need help most. The Food Stamp program was next. Once again you rose to the challenge and our state was able to go from having the worst error rate in the nation to the most improved in just a little over a year - securing a performance bonus of $205,000. These are only two examples of the excellent work done everyday. I am incredibly proud of your dedication and commitment.

I'd like to thank you for the high level of service you provide. At the heart of our success is the work you do. Your enthusiasm and dedication is making the difference in the lives of Alaska's people. Please take this time to celebrate the outstanding work you do with your friends and co-workers.
