Katherine Farnham has been appointed Director of the DHSS Division of Public Assistance, filling the vacancy created by my appointment to Deputy Commissioner. Katherine joins DHSS from the State of Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, where she has served as Director of the Division of Business Partnerships and as Executive Director of the Alaska Workforce Investment Board.
I was pleased to be involved in the recruitment of Katherine, with whom I had worked personally on the Job Center Operations Council for over a year. Katherine and I will work collaboratively to effectuate a smooth transition. I am confident we will continue to experience significant progress in DPA performance and success in our ongoing projects and initiatives.
I have enjoyed working with you all and hope to continue to support Katherine and DPA as Deputy Commissioner. You are a talented and knowledgeable group, well on your way to being the best performing Public Assistance agency in the country. I wish you continued success, national recognition and financial reward for your efforts! I have no doubt that you will win bonus money from USDA for the fantastic improvements in food stamp accuracy this year.
