Retirement Announcement

This is to tell you that I will be retiring in February. For those of you who were here last year about this time, this is a repeat as I left the Division then with plans for retirement. However, when Commissioner Livey asked me to step back last spring, first as Special Assistant, then as Director, I was happy to do so. It's been a wonderful experience, both as Director and acting Director. I've been proud to represent such a progressive, professional organization and blessed to work with such wonderful people!

My decision is entirely personal and has nothing to do with the work of the Division or the new administration. I think that Commissioner Gilbertson will be one of the best Commissioners we've had and the appointments announced yesterday are exceptional. Bob Labbe and Karleen Jackson will be super Deputies - we're lucky to have them. The Commissioner is putting together an outstanding team to lead the Department. It is my understanding that the DPA Director appointment is undecided and that the Commissioner will appoint an acting Director to take over when I'm gone on February 18.

Working for DPA has been a great pleasure, certainly the highlight of my professional career. I am looking forward to spending more time with family, actually having time to weave, spin and frame pictures, and perhaps return to school or do something yet unknown, but entirely different. I will miss you - keep up the great work and take care of yourselves, your families and your customers - in that order.

Chris
