711-3          DEFINITIONS

 

711-3 A.     DEPENDENT CHILD

 

A Dependent Child is a child who is:

 

  1. Under 18 years of age, OR

 

  1. Age 18 and enrolled full-time in a high school, GED program, or an equivalent level of vocational or technical training, AND

 

  1. Not a Temporary Assistance applicant themself.

 

711-3 B.     PARENT

 

A Parent is anyone of any age who is the natural or adoptive mother or father of the dependent child as defined in section 711-3.  Thus, it is possible to have a parent who may also be a dependent child himself or herself.

 

In two-parent cases, both natural or adoptive parents must be included in the filing unit, even if they are not married, unless one of the parents is excluded for a reason stated in section 711-4.

 

711-3 C.     BROTHERS AND SISTERS

 

Brothers and sisters are blood-related or adoptive siblings.  This includes half-brothers and half-sisters, but excludes stepbrothers and stepsisters.
