604-4 D.      TEMPORARY INELIGIBILITY/CASE SUSPENSION

Households that are expected to be temporarily ineligible due to an increase in income or other change not expected to continue in the subsequent month will have their case suspended.

Suspension is limited to one month.  If the ineligibility continues for the month following the suspended month, for whatever reason, we must close the case.  Exception: Suspensions due to PFDPermanent Fund Dividend income or retained PFDPermanent Fund Dividend resources can continue up to four months.  See MS 605-7.

The household must be notified of this action.  Because the suspension is for only one month, a new application and interview are not necessary to reestablish eligibility.

Note:

When a household is ineligible for the month of application but eligible for the second month, the application month is denied, not suspended.  See MS 601-5A for policy on approving applications.

When a one-person household is disqualified for one month as a result of failing to comply with a work requirement, the SNAP case is closed, not suspended,  Use EISEligibility Information System notice F437, FS Case Closed Work Requirements.  See MS 602-1K for policy on work requirement disqualifications.

Note:

For timely recertifications, if the household is ineligible for SNAPSupplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits in the month immediately following the end of its current certification period, the recertification is denied.  Benefits cannot be suspended and the household will need to submit a new application to receive SNAPSupplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.

The exception to this rule is if the PFDPermanent Fund Dividend causes a household to become ineligible in the month immediately following the end of its current certification period, but they are eligible in the following month.  In this scenario, SNAP benefits are suspended as explained in SNAP MS 605-7(G).
