5007-2 CONTINUOUS ELIGIBILITY AND TRANSITIONAL MEDICAID
At the time an entire household loses Family Medicaid eligibility because of increased earnings, the household should first be considered for Transitional Medicaid regardless of any remaining months of an existing continuous eligibility period. Because Transitional Medicaid establishes its own 6-month continuous eligibility period, the child should remain on Transitional Medicaid when eligibility for this category exists.
Note:
Children do not go on Transitional Medicaid, but remain on Family Medicaid
if increased earnings from a stepparent cause the household to exceed
the Family Medicaid need standard using the spouse to spouse deeming rules.
See MS
5220-2(D) example 7.
When Transitional Medicaid eligibility ends, a child must have their eligibility redetermined for Denali KidCare, Family Medicaid, or Under 21. When a child is determined prospectively eligible for Denali KidCare or Medicaid, a new 6-month continuous period of eligibility period begins with the first benefit month.
Transitional Medicaid is a special category of eligibility based on losing Family Medicaid eligibility. Eligibility for Transitional Medicaid does not entitle a child to 6 months of continuous eligibility, except for what is already provided under Transitional Medicaid rules. Therefore, a child is not eligible for a new 6-month continuous eligibility period based on any month of Transitional Medicaid eligibility.
