Child Entering an Institution

When a child enters an institution, it is necessary to verify if it is a temporary absence from the home or if the child is living separately from their parent(s).  To make this determination the caseworker will need to take the following actions:

1. Determine if the child had been living with his or her parent(s) on any day within the 30 days immediately preceding the date of admission.

2. If the child has been living with a parent(s) within the preceding 30 days, the caseworker must determine eligibility using the parent(s) income.  If the child is eligible for DKC Denali KidCare counting the parental income, authorize DKC Denali KidCare .  

3. If the child is not eligible using the parental income, the caseworker must pend the application for the following information:

• Complete Children Entering Institutional Treatment, MED 18, form

• Wait for 30 days to verify the child has been out of the home for 30 continuous days or more; or

• If the child was not in the institution for 30 continuous days, the income and resources of the parent(s) must be considered.
