1008-2          CONDUCTING THE EXTENSION REVIEW STAFFING

The Extension Review Staffing is conducted in the client's 58th benefit month, unless the client is reapplying for an extension having used more than 58 months, in which case the Extension Review Staffing is conducted two months before the current extension ends.  The Extension Review Staffing is conducted for all households regardless of whether or not they requested an extension.

If the client does not indicate interest in an extension, the CMCase Manager will schedule and hold an extension staffing to review all known information and document whether the client would possibly be eligible for an extension.

The Extension Review Staffing team will include, at a minimum, the CMCase Manager, and a Work Services lead worker or supervisor.  The client's participation is highly encouraged but not required.  Partner agency representatives or advocates who are also working with the family may be included.  The client may invite others who can help them describe their situation and help them advocate for themselves.  The CMCase Manager will ensure there are signed ROIRelease of Informations for all participants other than Work Services representatives and the client.

The CMCase Manager will describe the extension criteria an allows the team to describe any circumstances the believe meet the extension criteria.  Documentation of the circumstances that meet extension criteria must be submitted prior to a determination being made.  If the team does not have current and valid verification of the circumstances, the CMCase Manager may use prudent judgement to determine an amount of time for the client to submit the verification.

If the client does not participate in the Extension Review Staffing, the staffing team makes the extension decision based on available information in the client's file.

Regardless of possible extension criteria, if the client did not affirm a desire for an extension, the ATAPAlaska Temporary Assistance Program case will close due to reaching the 60-month limit of end of the current extension.

If the team is not able to make a decision, contact hss.dpa.policy@alaska.gov for guidance.

The results of the Extension Review Staffing are documented in CLNOClient Notes, CANOCase Note and uploaded through the Secure Document Upload.

See ATAP MS 701-7 for additional extension procedures.
