740-3          OTHER PUBLIC ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

For families transitioning from welfare to work, other public assistance programs provide key supports. Continued food and medical assistance can help stabilize a family's economic situation while they adjust to the challenges of a new way of supporting themselves. It is important that the caseworker evaluate a family's eligibility for these programs when their TATemporary Assistance ends.

740-3 A.      SNAP CATEGORICAL ELIGIBILITY

Families that qualify for extended case management, under WSPMWork Services Procedure Manual MS 1004-1, are categorically eligible for SNAPSupplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for six months after their ATAPAlaska Temporary Assistance Program case closes. For the policy on categorical eligibility, please see SNAPSupplemental Nutrition Assistance Program MS 605-6 B.

740-3 B.      TRANSITIONAL MEDICAID

When a family becomes ineligible for MAGIModified Adjusted Gross Income Medicaid benefits because of employment, the family may be entitled to Transitional Medicaid benefits for up to 12 months. To determine eligibility for Transitional Medicaid, see MAGIModified Adjusted Gross Income Medicaid MS 828.

Note:

Because of differences between MAGIModified Adjusted Gross Income Medicaid and ATAPAlaska Temporary Assistance Program policy, families may remain eligible for MAGIModified Adjusted Gross Income Medicaid after their TATemporary Assistance case closes.
