720-5          SELF-SUFFICIENCY PLANNING REQUIREMENT

Every adult who is included in an assistance unit must develop, sign and comply with a Family Self-Sufficiency Plan (FSSP).  In a two-parent family, both parents must sign and develop their own FSSPFamily Self-Sufficiency Plan.  In a pregnant woman case, if the father of the unborn child is living in the home, he may voluntarily develop, sign and comply with an FSSPFamily Self-Sufficiency Plan.

Complying with the FSSPFamily Self-Sufficiency Plan means that the adult participates in activities identified in the plan as steps that move the family toward self-sufficiency.  In a two-parent family, the parents must participate in work or self-sufficiency activities for a combined total of at least 35 hours a week.

If either or both parents in the family do not comply, a penalty is applied and the family’s benefit reduced.
