5104-2 HOUSEHOLD COMBINATIONS
A household can consist of any number of eligible children of any eligible relationship to the caretaker relative. Except in two-parent families, a Medicaid household can only include one caretaker relative. The household may include:
One caretaker relative and any number of dependent children with an eligible relationship to the caretaker relative;
Only a dependent child or children;
Only a caretaker relative and no child if the caretaker relative is (1) a pregnant woman in her last trimester; (2) a parent of a child receiving
SSI
; or (3) within the fifth degree of kinship to a dependent child receiving Federal, State or local foster care maintenance payments;
Two parents and any number of dependent children, if the household meets the requirements of deprivation by unemployment.
When a family contains two natural or adoptive parents and one meets the criteria for being unemployed, both parents are required to be included in the household and have their income and resources counted, unless the parent is ineligible for some reason.
