422-1         APA REQUIREMENTS

A Social Security number is not an eligibility requirement for the APAAdult Public Assistance program, unless needed to meet the APAAdult Public Assistance development of income requirement.

For example, a widow must apply for Social Security survivor benefits.  To receive survivor benefits, she must either have a Social Security number or apply for one.  If she refuses to provide or apply for a Social Security number as part of the application process for the survivor benefits, she is not eligible for APAAdult Public Assistance benefits because she did not take all steps necessary to receive the survivor benefits.
