A new report titled "FY04 Work Servicess Standards and YTD Performance Summary" was posted on the Performance Measures website. We will update this report monthly with year-to-date performance.

Here are pictures of the first ever Statewide Healthcare & Human Services Career Fair. This event was designed to address the near critical shortage of workers at all levels in this industry, which is one of the the fastest growing career fields in Alaska. To meet this significant economic challenge, the state collaborated with numerous organizations to create this event. There were 50+ industry representatives from around Alaska bringing career and training opportunities to our community.
Job Start is a new Work Services program that promotes job opportunities for Temporary Assistance clients by subsidizing the wages of new jobs created by small businesses. Employers that create a new job and hire a Temporary Assistance client receive a wage subsidy that is equal to the client
Anchorage K-Mart will no longer be accepting supportive service vouchers. They also have requested that any and all bills be paid in full by 2/22/03.
This is a reminder to continue to use the federal minimum wage when calculating the number of hours that Temporary Assistance clients can be assigned to unpaid work such as Community Work Experience (CWE) and job sampling. While the Alaska minimum wage will increase to $7.15 an hour effective January 1, 2003, despite attempts by some members of Congress to pass legislation increasing the federal minimum wage, it remains $5.15 per hour.
Highlighting the success of Alaska's welfare reform efforts, Gov.Tony Knowles today honored Alaska citizens who have made the transition fromwelfare to work and the businesses that help make it happen at the fourth annual Governor's WorkStar awards.
