607              CORRECTING BENEFITS

This section provides policy on correcting benefits when households are issued more or fewer benefits than they were entitled to receive.  Included are instructions on how to calculate the correct benefit, when to issue restored benefits, and how to establish an overpayment claim.

A caseworker will learn about incorrect benefits from many sources, including supervisory reviews, contacts from clients, fair hearing decisions, and Quality Assessment (QAQuality Assessment) reviews.  When the household receives an incorrect benefit, the caseworker must determine the cause of the error and the amount of benefits that should have been issued.

Note:

Use policy in this section to determine the overpayment or underpayment amount for all errors, including those found through a QAQuality Assessment review.  As a result of unique QAQuality Assessment rules, the error amount reported on the QAQuality Assessment review form (Q-Form) may be different than the amount calculated using this policy.
