607              CORRECTING BENEFITS

This section provides policy on correcting benefits when households are issued more or fewer benefits than they were entitled to receive.  Included are instructions on how to calculate the correct benefit, when to issue restored benefits, and how to establish an overpayment claim.

A caseworker will learn about incorrect benefits from many sources, including supervisory reviews, contacts from clients, fair hearing decisions, and Quality Assessment ( QA ) reviews.  When the household receives an incorrect benefit, the caseworker must determine the cause of the error and the amount of benefits that should have been issued.

Note:

Use the policy in this section to determine the overpayment or underpayment amount for all errors, including those found through a QA review.  As a result of unique QA rules, the error amount reported on the QA review form (Q-Form) may be different than the amount calculated using this policy.
