5104-8 MINOR PARENT CONSIDERATIONS
Who must be included in the household depends, in some living circumstances, on who chooses to apply. For example, if a mother under 18 applies for herself and her child, this minor parent and her child are in the household. If this minor parent lives with her parents, and her parent applies for Medicaid, the minor mother is considered to be a dependent child and the household consists of the parent and her child, and the grandchild is an optional member. For purposes of the Family Medicaid household requirement, a minor parent is only considered to be a "parent" if he or she lives apart from his or her parent, or if his or her parents are not applying for Family Medicaid for themselves. See manual section 5160-14B.
Note:
For Denali KidCare households, a minor parent is always considered the
parent, even when the minor parent lives in the home of his or her parents.
If a minor parent is living in the home of his or her parents, the income of the minor parent’s parents is countable for both Family Medicaid and Denali KidCare.
