5100-1        INTRODUCTION TO FAMILY MEDICAID (FM )

Family Medicaid (FM ) is an eligibility category that provides Medicaid to both adults and dependent children in the household. This is essentially the same population that would have received Medicaid because they were eligible for Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC Aid to Families with Dependent Children). When AFDC Aid to Families with Dependent Children was replaced by the Temporary Assistance on July 1, 1997, Medicaid was delinked from receipt of cash benefits but is generally required to follow the AFDC Aid to Families with Dependent Children rules in effect at that time.
