450-5        LIVING IN AN INSTITUTION (SSI "D" LIVING ARRANGEMENT)

Residents of eligible institutions, such as hospitals or nursing homes, can be eligible for a reduced SSISupplemental Security Income monthly benefit.  The SSISupplemental Security Income benefit is limited to a maximum of $30 per month when the recipient is a resident in an eligible institution for a full calendar month.  (Refer to chapter 470 for policy on institutionalization.)

Individuals expected to be living in an eligible institution for more than 3 months will have their APAAdult Public Assistance eligibility measured against the $200 monthly NHPNursing Home Personal Needs (APA Household Type) income limit.  If they have countable income equal to or above $200, they are not eligible for APAAdult Public Assistance benefits.

NOTE:

See ADLTC MS 550 for the Medicaid policy regarding an individual living in an institution.  Remember that these types of Medicaid cases should be referred to the LTC office.
