105              VERIFICATION PROCEDURES

Verification is the use of documentation or third party information to confirm eligibility for public assistance programs.  Except for program specific requirements, verification is only necessary to establish the accuracy of questionable statements or information.  The following sections describe the recommendations and requirements for verification of financial and non-financial eligibility factors.

As a result of differences in the application processing procedures and timeliness standards between the Temporary Assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Medicaid, and other state-only public assistance programs, staff may have to determine SNAP eligibility prior to determining the household's eligibility for other programs.  Action on the SNAP portion of an application cannot be delayed nor can the application be denied on the grounds that the determination for participation in another program has not been made.
